Shiraz University of Technology (SUTECH) was established in 1968 in Shiraz, Iran’s fifth-largest city and the economic centre of its southern region. Originally founded as a monotechnic university specializing in electronics and industrial technologies, it was granted full university status and adopted its current name in 2004, becoming the second university in Fars Province. Since then, SUTECH has steadily expanded and diversified its academic and research activities, establishing itself as the region’s first technological university with strong links to industry. Today, the university’s 45-acre campus, located in the southern part of Shiraz, accommodates a wide range of academic departments, including Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering and Information Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, Shiraz University of Technology is ranked 501–600 among universities worldwide. Despite remaining a relatively small and specialized institution, SUTECH has demonstrated steady and significant growth in Teaching, Research Quality, and International Outlook, as reflected in THE rankings since 2019. The university’s research profile has also expanded considerably since achieving full university status in 2004. Today, SUTECH has a strong research-oriented environment and maintains extensive academic and industrial collaborations. The names of 13 members of the university’s academic staff are included among the world’s top 2% most-cited researchers, with five researchers ranking among the top 1% most-cited researchers worldwide.
