Current Research
Selected Industrial research works
- Dec. 2020- 2023, Thick Ni-Co alloy plating of steel slab continuous casting copper molds. Newly fabricated copper molds used in steel slab continuous casting are protected from wear by a thick coating of Ni-Co alloy which will be worn after certain number of casting. We developed a similar coating via conventional electroplating which now is passing final tests. The project has been ordered by Hormozgan South Steel Co. (HOSCO), Bandar Abbas, Iran.
- March 2020-March 2022, Failure analysis and remedies for abnormal deformation and wear of mixing chamber and inner casing components of V94.2 combustion chambers. Failure analysis was carried out by metallurgical analysis of the failed material and also establishment of collaboration with a group of mechanical engineers to simulate the hot gas stream and solid reactions in terms of temperature and stress. Also weld surfacing solutions were proposed to increase the wear resistance. The project was ordered by Kerman Combined Cycle Power Plant, Iran.
- 2020-2021, Coating of bellows expansion joints used in steel and petrochemical industries, supported by National Elites Foundation, Iran.
- 2020, Failure analysis and remedies of lashing wire of the last stage blades of 320 MW low pressure steam turbine. The frequent cracking of lashing wires of L0 blades of a large steam turbine were analyzed by metallurgical examinations and simulation with Abacus software. This collaboration between mechanical engineering and materials engineering resulted in a solution in terms of replacing the joining filler material. The project was ordered by Isfahan Power Plant, Isfahan, Iran.
- June 2020- July 2020, Failure analysis of cracked generator rotor. In collaboration with a knowledge-based company (Behinkaran) I utilized fractography to find out the failure cause correctly. The project was funded by Ramin Power Plant, Ahvaz, Iran.
- Dec. 2018- Apr. 2019, Failure and fracture analysis of tension bolt of EGT turbine, Metallurgical characterization was employed to reveal the grain boundary closed loop of brittle precipitates which has caused the failure. The project was ordered by Iranian Gas Transmission Co. District 5, Shiraz, Iran.
- Aug. 2015-Nov. 2016, Failure analysis of hot-section expansion joint of styrene monomer unit. Metallurgical characterization of samples taken from the failed component showed undesirable carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries which is known as sensitization. Some remedial actions were suggested. The project was ordered by Pars Petrochemical Co., Bushehr, Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, Iran.
